Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
Continuous Professional Development (CPD) is a combination of approaches, ideas and techniques that will help you manage your own learning and growth. The focus of CPD is firmly on results – the benefits that professional development can bring you in the real world. Perhaps the most important message is that one size doesn’t fit all. Wherever you are in your career now, and whatever you want to achieve, your PD should be exactly that: yours.
CPD is not an add-on, but an essential component of your professionalism. It's part of the professional competence and integrity of all our members to actively engage with CPD, as stated in our Code of Conduct. Your development is your responsibility, so you must take control of your career.
CPD helps individuals aspire to the highest standards of professional practice. It ensures that we serve as role-models to others, collectively practicing what we preach through our own learning and development.
To achieve your career ambitions in today's fast-changing IT world you need to commit to CPD. You need to identify your development needs and then plan your development activities. Once you have completed these activities, you need to understand how you have benefitted and reflect on how this has enhanced your capabilities and competencies.
Benefits of Continuous Professional Development
- keep your skills up to date
- boost your confidence
- prepare for greater responsibilities
- strengthen your professional credibility
- become more creative in tackling new challenges
We have created a CPD plan template for your use in our EPMA Membership Management Information System to make planning easier for you. Once you complete your CPD plan, you will need to execute your plan. You will need also to update your plan with the courses or objectives you achieved and assess what you have achieved.
